A busy day

Talk about never having a dull moment. I got up at 5.30 this morning, had some breakfast and then did some leg and core exercises. Then I went to work. 8 hours later I took my bike down to Frölundaborg to pick up my bib for Göteborgsvarvet. I spent some time in the fair, which had some good offers on lots of running related merchandise.

That's why I couldn't resist buying a pair of Saucony Kinvara 2, despite their blinding pink colour. I tried them on the treadmill and fell in love immediately. They weigh nothing. And they were pretty cheap: 800 Swedish crowns, down from the usual asking price of 1300.

Afterwards J and I went to one of Göteborgsvarvet's lectures. This one was by Rikard Hallgren, an ultra runner who ran the Marathon des Sables, a gruelling 240 km-long multi-stage event in the desert. The desert is the last place on earth I'd pick to run an ultra. It just doesn't appeal to me. Still, both in image and text, he made it look so cool, despite the photos of his bloody, blistery feet. A part of the lecture was about overcoming the pain the aforementioned bloody, blistery feet caused him, and the mental barriers that any ultra challenge of this magnitude poses. Inspirational.

I also ran into a few people from the group (Karin and Alexander, among others) and had a chance to chat with Niklas, one of the creators of jogg.se and companion on my very first ultra run. Talking to them made me even more excited to run on Saturday. Even if it takes me 3 hours, I'll do it.
