There is no such thing as bad weather

It took me ten minutes after I'd left the flat to realise I had chosen the wrong gloves. The thermometer might have said it was -10, but the freezing wind on my cheeks said otherwise. It felt like at least 5 degrees lower. If I had had time to run back and put on a buff around my face and changed into a pair of fleece gloves, I would have. But I had to hurry to the AIK training session, so I tried to ignore the imminent frostbite and hoped that running up the hill to the hockey arena would get my blood warm. It didn't. One of the radiators inside the hockey arena was really warm and toasty though. Although the five year olds that had come to hockey practice gave me some strange looks. Apparently it isn't appropriate social behaviour to hug a radiator and whisper sweet nothings in its thermostat.

We were 12 runners and two dogs that met up this morning, in glorious, if a little winter-weak, sunshine, to run eastwards. It's a pretty round, through Skellefteå's suburbs, taking us by the ice covered river and past snow-white fields, before returning to the town centre and up the same hill I'd run earlier.

I logged 22 really easy kilometres. If only all runs felt this easy. But I suspect that this morning's run felt easy precisely because some of the other runs are hard. And speaking of hard runs, Monday marks the start of my ski lessons (well, the practical ones anyway), so I will be missing several interval sessions with AIK. I hope that I'll be a good girl anyway and do some speed work on my own. Don't hold your breath.

  1. We always used that saying too- only bad clothes! I can't imagine running when it is that cold though, although I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold - I would much rather have too much on than not enough, as I never mind taking some off and carrying it.

    1. I'm the complete opposite. I would rather have too little on than too much, since I always get pretty warm when I'm running. But in the case of my hands and face I need to dress warmer!
